June 8th, marks the celebration of World Oceans Day, a reminder of the major role our oceans play in everyday life. They are the lungs of our planet, providing most of the oxygen we breathe.
The health of our oceans is under threat, with pollution being one of the key challenges they face. Over 50 trillion microscopic pieces of plastic litter the ocean, falsely resembling food to marine life and resulting in fatal consequences.
Today, in honor of World Oceans Day, we're delighted to announce that we've made a donation to the World Wildlife Fund to protect species and their habitats, and we’ve adopted a sea mammal –a Narwhal!
Often referred to as the 'unicorns of the sea,' Narwhals are truly unique. Roughly 72% of them inhabit the Arctic Circle. These fascinating creatures are currently listed as of "special concern" by the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC). Read more about them here.
The Ocean Conservancy and the Ocean Foundation are just a few of the dedicated organizations striving to protect our oceans. Let's join them in their mission by educating ourselves and others, donating, and adopting more sustainable habits. An easy starting point? Switching from plastic to reusable shopping bags. Our Thirdera Swag Store just dropped a new eco-friendly tote bag in honor of World Oceans Day!
Thank you for your commitment to a collective effort towards a more sustainable world!
